This paper addresses the behavior of a transverse electromagnetic (TEM) waveguide operated at frequencies centered around its intended design frequency. A boundary condition analysis leads to an eigenvalue formulation, which is used to determine closed-form expressions for the electromagnetic field distributions within the TEM waveguide. Measurements of electric field magnitudes at several different operating frequencies confirm the analysis. The results presented here illustrate the significant effect of frequency variation on the operation of TEM waveguides.
