INTRAOPERATIVE CARDIAC MAPPING.

There are several approaches to the design of a mapping system for use during the intraoperative study of cardiac activation. The authors present a brief overview of several designs currently in successful use, discuss attributes desirable in a clinical mapping system, and consider possible future developments in the hardware and software to be used in these systems. Some critical design considerations are adequate processing speed, effective computer graphics and user interface, and accurate signal-processing and pattern-recognition algorithms. Because of recent and continuing advances in computer technology, it is feasible to maintain the flexibility necessary to incorporate new knowledge in this maturing field while preserving performance that is adequate for use in the operating room.
