The algorithms contained in the following articles are intended to be concise, clear, and accurate tools for the busy primary care physician to help facilitate the identification, classification, evaluation, and treatment of adults with epilepsy. While the guidelines are no panacea, taking a few moments to carefully consider what they mean in functional terms, assigning each of these functional tasks to a responsible person and having a brief talk with consultants and patients to ensure that the process is understood by all parties, is a major first step in putting the epilepsy guidelines into practice. We believe these tools will improve the care of patients with seizures who are seen in the primary care setting.
