Research Interests

My current research interests are the following. Interested graduate & undergraduate students and post-doctoral fellows are welcome to contact me directly.

1. Modernizing intraoperative data framework
Building on my previous work on developing a novel framework to measure intraoperative parameters, such as errors, adverse events, distractions, technical skills, and non-technical skills in the operating room using video data, I am refining the measurement framework to be parsimonious, improving scalability while optimizing clinical utility.

2. Automated identification of post-operative complications
Using electronic medical records data, I am developing algorithms that automatically identify pertinent post-operative complications, such as bleeding, pneumonia, myocardial infarction, and deep vein thrombosis. This algorithm will use physiologic, laboratory, and imaging data to identify the complications before clinicians arrive at their diagnosis, helping to mitigate negative consequences of complications.
