Outreach & Engaged Scholarship

Physican - Duke Teddy Bear Festival Volunteer · 2023 - 2024 Event Participation Duke University Medical Center , NC Museum of life and science flag North Carolina Duke Teddy Bear Festival Volunteer I have actively participated in the Duke Teddy Bear Festival, educating the community about pediatric gastroenterology conditions, including button battery ingestion prevention.
Physican - Duke Button battery protocol · 2022 - 2025 Professional Development Duke University Medical Center flag North Carolina Duke Button battery protocol In response to untoward incident all over the country, we have a well-defined emergency response plan in the event of button battery ingestion in children within the Duke healthcare system. This includes immediate medical intervention protocols involving the physicians from the emergency room, trauma, cardiothoracic team and other specialists with a swift communication channel between them. I remain committed to continuously review and update our protocol on button batteries to adapt to emerging risks and best practices. I believe that these measures will significantly reduce the risk of button battery-related incidents and enhance the overall safety of our patients and the whole community.
Physican · 2013 - 2019 Community Outreach Community Pediatricians Outreach As part of my commitment to supporting pediatric care across North Carolina, I regularly field calls from community physicians seeking guidance on complex gastrointestinal cases. I respond to a large number of questions from providers across the state, offering timely advice on diagnostic workups, management plans, and referral pathways in the form of e-consult and phone calls. These interactions not only help optimize care for children in underserved and rural areas but also strengthen collaboration between tertiary and community settings. By being consistently available and responsive, I’ve helped many primary care and emergency providers feel more confident in managing GI conditions locally, ultimately improving access and continuity of care for children and families across the region.
