Dr. Sheng Luo was named a 2020 Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA). Statisticians are considered worthy of the title of fellow based on their contributions to the profession, to the association, and to society at large. To be selected, nominees must have an established reputation and have made outstanding contributions to statistical science. The number of new fellows per year is limited to one third of one percent of the membership of the ASA, about 50-60 members.
Dr. Luo was recognized on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) virtual meeting “For excellent contributions to statistical methods in longitudinal and survival analysis; for scientific contributions to the field of neurological diseases; for exemplary mentorship of students; and for significant service to the profession.” The awards ceremony was held during the ASA President’s Address and Founders and Fellows Recognition.

The objectives are to uncover the genetic and epigenetic etiologies shared between Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) to identify actionable targets for the development of novel therapies to treat NPS with the ultimate aim of delaying or preventing the onset of AD.
