Clinical Activities

My main area of clinical practice is in the division of cardiothoracic anesthesiology and critical care medicine. I am involved in the care of adult patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgery, including all thoracic transplants, and electrophysiology procedures. I also have regular responsibilities as a principal intensivist in the Adult Cardiothoracic Unit, which is the postoperative critical care unit for cardiothoracic surgery. My clinical responsibilities account for 45% of my overall time commitment to the department. I also spend 10% of my clinical time providing general anesthesia at the Durham VA operating rooms, staffing the TEE service and chairing the Transfusion Committee. Additional responsibilities include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in all clinical work areas.
