Acute aortic syndromes are part of a wide spectrum of arterial and aortic diseases. This life-threatening group of disorders requires rapid diagnosis and treatment to reduce the associated high mortality and morbidity. Regardless of whether definitive surgical intervention is undertaken, the cornerstone of initial management is medical therapy to reduce cardiac ejection force, blood pressure, and heart rate to subsequently reduce the risk of aortic rupture. The initial management of a complex patient presenting with a malperfusion syndrome is guided by the complication-specific approach.
