Dr. Vestal is a member of the Neurosurgery Department Clinical Research Unit Advisory Council

Clinical Activities


Dr. Vestal is the pediatric neurosurgical clinical lead for Epilepsy Surgery and Tuberous Sclerosis though is also an expert in endoscopic third ventriculostomy, Chiari Malformations, hydrocephalus, spine surgery, robotic assisted surgery, deep brain stimulation, laser interstitial therapy, brain tumors, shunting, moya moya disease, spina bifida, cavernous malformations, spinal dysraphism, positional plagiocephaly, pituitary masses, skull base masses/dermoid tumors, and craniosynostosis.

He is currently conducting the first pediatric gene therapy trial in the world for children with AADC deficiency where a synthetic gene is injected into the brains of children deficient in the AADC gene.
