Overview


Dr. Hugh Crumley is the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs in the Graduate School. He has over 20 years’ experience in higher education in the U.S. and abroad, primarily focused on educational development. Since joining Duke in 2006, Dr. Crumley has been involved with multiple aspects of graduate education and currently provides leadership for Graduate School teaching & learning programs, including founding and directing the Certificate in College Teaching, directing the Preparing Future Faculty program, and coordinating Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training for all 3800+ graduate students at Duke. Beyond Duke, he has served as a Fulbright National Screening Committee evaluator, and as an elected member of the Core Committee of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education.

Dr. Crumley previously taught coursework on higher education pedagogy and educational technology at the University of Virginia, Georgetown University, as well as at universities and institutes in Russia, Bulgaria, and Korea.
